MAIN HIGHWAYS WORK.

PROGRESS IN APRIL,

Among the works carried out under the Main Highways Board in April were the following: — Wellington-Auckland, via Taranaki.—Johnsonville Town Board: 20 chains of bituminous concrete has been completed. Tnwa Flat-Porirua: 21 chains from the hospital entrance to the railway crossing has been scaled with bitumen. Paremata to Horokiwi Valley: 20 chains of widening to 24ft. has been completed, and a further 10 chains is in hand; 20 chains of bituminous sealing has also been completed. Paekakariki-Waikanae: Approximately 1 mile of widening to 24ft. has been completed. Waikanae to Manakau: 1 mile of bituminous macadam has been completed between Otaki and Manakau. Levin-Palmerston North, via Shan-non.—-The erection of the Kara Stream bridge in the Makerua Swamp is in hanel. Foxton-Shannofl.—Manawatu River bridge: Good progress has been made with the superstructure and painting. The concrete abutments for two small bridges on the approach to this bridge have been practically completed. Formation at both ends is well in haad.
