.REP. MATCHES ARRANGED
At the meeting of the Manawhenua Rugby Union on Wednesday evening, the chief business was the confirmation of the representative games for the season. Mr W. C. Hannau presided, there being also present: Messrs J. W. Procter, E. M. Ryder, A. Richards, U. Hutchins, and M. Winiata A. M. Ongley, J. R. Hardie, K. W. Eglinton, J. A. Cloquhoun, H. R. Crawford, Jas. Ryan, and C. D. Fraser, secretary (Manawatu). REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES. The following representative matches were confirmed: — ' Wednesday, July 11, Wairarapa, in Manawatu. , Saturday, August 4, Wanganui, at Wanganui. Saturday, August 11, Canterbury, at Christchureh. Wednesday, Auguct 15, Otago, at Dunedin. ■,,-,,. Saturday, August 18, Southland, at Invercargill. . Wednesday, August 29, Taranaki, in Manawatu. _ Wednesday, September o, Hawkes Bay, in Manawatu. , Saturday, September 8, Taranaki, at New Plymouth. . Saturday, September 15, Wairarapa, at Masterton. . The date for the representative match Horowhenua v. Manawatu, was fixed for June 23 at Shannon. The Horowhenua Rugby Council were given leave to play Rangitikei for the Bebbington Shield on July 7th. 1 It was unanimously decided that the ! Wellington Rugby Union be asked to fulfil their obligation to Manawhenua bv returning the visit this year, preferably on a Saturday. It was suggested that the match be played at Leyn. - A letter from the Poverty Bay Union asking for a visit was received. The Auckland Rugby Union are to be invited to play a match on either September 12 or 19. GENERAL.
Mr Eglinton moved that it be a recommendation to both councils to play A and B teams on the same day in the Horowhenua v. Manawatu fixtures. This would give greater scope for the players. It was generally agreed that this would be a move in the right direction. It was decided that the expenses be limited to £7 10s each team per fixture. t . , . The Manawatu Dadies' Hoekey Association wrote asking if the Manawatu Rugby Union would assist with a contribution in view of the heavy losses I sustained at the championship tourney last year, a contributing factor being the three Ranfurly Shield matches which clashed with the tourney. Mr A. M. Ongley regretted that the Union should have clashed in their Ranfurly Shield matches with the ladies' hockey tournament. He moved that the secretary be asked to write for more detailed information on the matter. Mr A. Richards gave notice of motion that the Manawhenua Union grant I £SO toward the. insurance funds, £2o to each council. . The Horowhenua Council were presented with the set of green and white ierseys formerly used by the union. It was decided to grant the custodian of the Showgrounds £2 2s for his services to the Manawhenua Union during the 1927 season. It was resolved that Wairarapa and Manawhenua home and home matches be fixed fixtures. v Permission was granted to Mr Stan Austen, Foxton,,' to travel with the official party on the Southern tour.
