HOROWHENUA DISTRICT COUNCIL. The weekly meeting of the manage- ' ment committee of the Horowhenua Rugby District Council was held'in the Wistaria rooms last evening, there being present: —Messrs W. Hannan (president), J. W. Procter (Hui Mai), A. Richards (Shannon), H. Hutchins (Foxton),~ W. Phillips (Referees), E. M. Ryder (Wanderers), G. Mitchell (Shannon), F. Robinson (Foxton), M. Winiata (senior selector), L. McDonald (Wanderers), J. W. Rimmer (treasurer), and J. Casey (secretary). Leave of absence was granted to Mr S. Hooper (Weraroa). Mr F. Middleton, secretary of the Paraparaumu club, wrote reporting that L. Gordon, of the juniors, had received injuries to his hand. The secretary of 'Paraparaumu further reported that in the game against Maungatuku at Waikanae on Saturday, Gordon was illegally obstructed, for which the referee awarded "Pram" a free kick. Gordon's injury, the secretary stated, was the result of the obstruction. The writer asked if the insurance scheme covered the expenses of the medical examination. He thought that the matter should be referred to the Referees' Association, with a request that such offences be dealt with more severely. The medical certificate stated that Gordon would not be able to use his left hand for about 12 days.—The matter was left in the hands of the secretary. The Miranui club applied for the reinstatement of a senior player, Louis Simpson. The secretary (Mr F. Pieard) stated that Simpson played for Miranui juniors in 1926 and at the conclusion of that season was graded senior. Last season he was unable to gain a position in a senior team, and was also unable to do so this season. The Chairman stated that Simpson was now eligible to play again as a junior. The secretary stated that Otaki wished to have M. Nicholls reinstated from junior to third grade, for which he was now eligible. The same action was decided on as in the case of Simpson. The Town Clerk of Levin wrote stating that instructions had been issued to the Borough Gardener to place a covering of soil over the "takingoff" plank by the jumping pit in the Park Domain. It was not considered advisable to remove, the plank altogether. The matter, of repairs to the floor of the grandstand would- also receive immediate attention. The presence of the plank was considered a danger, and Sir Procter undertook to interview the Athletic Club in regard to it. The Foxton Football Club forwarded a letter received from the Foxton Racing Club with reference to football on the racecourse, stating that the committee would .grant the club the use?and control of the two grounds for this season. —Received. A donation of £1 Is was received from Dr. Hunter, and was acknowledged with thanks. " ' .'; Th secretary reported that the Hui Mai thirds had defaulted twice .in succession and were now out of the competition. REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES. A, discussion of prospective rep. matches took place, the fixtures immediately in view being the match against Rangitikei, who had challenged for the Bebbington Shield, the Maori v. Pakeha game, and Manawatu v. Horowhenua. Notice had been given by the Chairman to move, That the motion setting down the Maori-Pakeha match for iv Saturday be rescinded, and that tin. game be played on a Wednesday, provided that Foxton is agreeable to the Manawatu game being played at Shannon." The Chairman said that the Manawatu match had been granted to Foxton, but it was easier for the Rangitikei team to travel to Foxton than to Levin, and the Manawatu game could be shifted to Shannon. He would like to see the Maori-Pakeha match played on a Wednesday, because he did not see how they were going to get all the rep. games in on Saturdays. Mr Hutchins reported that Foxton was agreeable to the proposed alteration. The Chairman moved that the Maori Pakeha match be played on a Wednesday, in accordance with the notice above. Mr Richards seconded the motion, and it was carried by seven votes to four. Rep. fixtures were then drawn up as follows: — Maori v. Pakeha, Wednesday, June 13th, at Levin. Horowhenua v. Manawatu, Saturday, June 23rd, at Shannon. Bebbington Shield, „"'Rangitikei v. Horowhenua, Saturday, July 7th, at Foxton.
