SWIMMING BATHS POLL.
TO BE HELD OVER.
At the Borough Council meeting on Wednesday evening, the Town Clerk asked what the Council intended doing in regard to taking a poll of th£ ratepayers on the question of erecting swimming baths. He stated that the proposal had been approved of by the Loans Board on November 25th, 1927, but the taking qf .the poll had been held over to allow the poll for the Main Highway Loan to be taken at the same time, but the latter had been shelved in the meantime.
Cr. Downes expressed the opinion that it was a waste of money to take a poll on the swhnriiing baths, and he thought it should be held over until a poll was taken for the Main Highways or any other poll to come off before then.
The Mayor: “By doing that, we are shelving something we have promised the ratepayers. The other poll may not come off for twelve months.” The Town Clerk said the cost of a poll would be about £lO. Cr. Downes said that if they took a poll they would be throwing away £lO on .some'.hing they have no chance of carrying. He pointed out that the expense to the borough did not cease when the baths were erected, as there would always be maintenance and a caretaker to provide for. Mr Downes’ suggestion to hold over the taking of the poll was agreed to.
