BUCKLEY DRAINAGE BOARD.

A meeting of the above Board was held yesterday. Present: Trustees Taylor (chairman), Egginton, Speirs and Easton. A letter was received from the Bank of New Zealand advising that the Board has no power to borrow on overdraft (outside of the £1550 specially legislated fof) except in terms of the Local Bodies Finance Act/ 1921-1922. The Town Clerk intimated that he had communicated with the Department of Internal Affairs on the matter: The Board had informed the Bank that they were taking the necessary steps to raise a loan to meet this liability with the Bank. Messrs Ross, Rough* and Co., Ltd., wrote stating that they are not willing at the present time to contribute towards maintaining certain portions of the Manawatu river bank and the banking of the Koputaroa stream, pointing out that the company objected to being classified for the proposed works and its objection was upheld by the Court. Its section cannot be benefited by the Board so long as the Manawatu river floods the land from the west of the Board’s area. Furthermore, it is not known what action the Manawatu Oroua River Board will take in this district when it commences operations. The following resolution moved by Trustee Taylor and seconded by Trustee Easton, was carried: "That in the event of the classification signed by the Magistrate not being available as a general classification, then in the opinion of the Board it is advisable for the Board to make a general classification, such classification to be the same as the classification scheme one for banking, with the necessary alterations in the classification of the Kopu-, taroa and for deepening, so that the Koputaroa sub-division will contribute its -fair proportion towards administration expenses." It was resolved that if necessary the chairman proceed to Wellington and place the position re the classification before the Department of Internal Affairs. . .

On the motion fif Trustee Egginton, seconded by Trustee Speirs, it was decided that the Board proceed with the raising of a loan of £IOOO to deepen the Koputaroa, and that Mr Hay be instructed to have plans and specifications put in order for submission to the Loans Board.
