VALEDICTORY.

On Wednesday evening, at the Parish Hall, Mr and Mrs A. Merwood, who are leaving Shannon this week for Plimmerton, were tendered a farewell " social and dance by members of the Tennis' Club and Druids' Lodge, Mrs Merwood having been an active member of the fornieT for the past seventeen years, while Mr Merwood is one of the oldest members of the latter. There was a good gathering present and a pleasant evening was spent in dancing. Mrs Butler and Mr A Mason provided the music, Mr A. H. Morgan officiating as M.C. During the evening Mr Moody, president of the Tennis Club, in expressing regret at the departure from Shannon of : Mrs Merwood, referred to the many years she had been an .active and enthusiastic member, during which time she was one of their best helpers in raising funds af any social events, street stalls, etc. She had not only rendered assistance m this direction to the Tennis Club, but also to the local school and athletic bodies; and her departure would be a loss to the community. He wished Mr and Mrs Merwood every happiness and success in their new home, and on behalt ot the members of the Tennis Club he asked Mrs Merwood to accept a handdome hand mirror, brush and a token of their appreciation of her efforts in the interests of the Club. He also presented to little Miss . Joyce Merwood*a manicure set for the assistance she has given, stating she also had been a keen helper. Mr Mason, on behalf of the members of the Druid's Lodge, handed to Mrs Merwood for Mr Merwood, who was unable to be present, a token-in recognition of his work as a member of the Lod<*e. Mr H. Wiggins suitably replied on behalf of the guests.
