ENGINEER'S REPORT. The following report was presented by the engineer (Mr J. A. Smith} to jthe Horowhenua Power Board on Tuesday: No. 1 Gang have run 11 service linfes, erected 6 poles and run 228 chains jof wire. Have lifted crossarias on p. 4 poles Foxton Beach Road to /allow L.T. to be extended Have run heavier jcable at Poroutawhao Have cut trees fat Victoria Park, Foxton, Paraporatamu, Doctor's Road, Rahui and Otaki (North. Have erected two earth guards iand phone lines on Foxton Beach fßoad. ; No. 2 Gang have ; run two service •lines, erected 7 poles, and run 383 chains of wire. Have completed •{changing L.T. cables j in Cambridge jStreet and Community lighting overhead work. Made alterations' to L.T. Fairfield, and Kuku. Have commenced overhauling lines on HeatherleatKoputaroa Road. i No. 3 Gang have been chiefly encaged on line maintenance and * attention to consumers' installations, Reading quarterly meters and attent- [ jon to Shannon, Sub. They have run jiß chains of wire and one service line. t! Electrical fitters have run 3 new crvice lines and extra phases on two xisting service lines and made preparation for three phase service to Messrs Lamb and Hoarle ? s. . Have erected 4 poles, altered iervfee line on Mr Roe's property. ■ Have,. changed two transformers and reconditioned two. Dried out and filtered oil in transformers at Speirs' Shannon, Poplar *Min and Ross, Bough and Co's and painted same. Cut trees, streng-" thened earths, attended to ' maintenance and street/lights. ;. Installations: —During the period 12 applications from new consumers and 24 for extensions to existing, installations have been- received, Comprising 3 ranges, 4 waterheatdrs, 2 milking motors, 5 industrial, and 2 pumping motors. ,20 new / consumers and 31 extensions have been connected including;*s 'ranges, 3 milking motors, 9 industrial ' motors and one pumping motor. 31 single phase meters .have been tested, 5 repaired and retested. General:—Early Sunday morning, : 7th April, fires occured in two premises in the Main Street, Foxton, and damaged our L.T. mains. The intense heat melted three 19/16. T.B. and one 7/14 bare copper cables, destroying about 1£ chains-.of each wire. The service lines to both premises were burnt, also all external fittings, together with two crossarms on one pole. The pole suffered minor damage. The street lights, and service to the other part of the town, were restored as soon as the damaged part was cleared and the installation of new mains was complete by mid-day. I would ask authority to purchase, against quotations being | received, about 4 tons bare copper cable and v 3 miles T.B. cable. The report was adopted.
