RUGBY FOOTBALL.

The senior team to represent the Shannon Club against Hui Mai at Manakau on Saturday next in the opening game of the Cup fixture will be selected from the following: —C. Dunn, Robbie, Roberts, Baker, McKenzie, Warren, Walls, Moody, Fitzgerald, Hirst, Robbie, Payne, Marsh, Satherley, Cole, Dalzell, Mitchell and Walker. The above are requested to meet at the Domain to-night and Thursday night at 7.p.m. on each occasion for training purposes. SATURDAY’S MATCHES. Several Rugby matches preliminary to the opening of the season were played on Saturday, when promising form was shown by all sides. Shannon and Weraroa seniors met on the Weraroa Reserve, and after a strenuous game the visitors won by seven points to three. For the winners Hunt potted a goal and kicked a penalty goal, but the latter was a doubtful score, the general impression being that the ball went below the bar. Weraroa ’s score was a penalty goal kicked by Warren. No points were obtained until the second spell. Mr J. Hopa was referee. On Prouse’s paddock, Wanderers’ senior team playe# the Athletic seniors from Palmerston, the game being a fast and open one, in which the lighter team from the north, although frequently on the defensive, showed much activity. The result was a draw, each side scoring eight points. Dick McDonald was responsible for the whole of Wanderers’ tally, scoring a try, which he converted, and kicking a penalty goal. The visitors’ score consisted of a converted try and a try. Mr H. Jacob refereed. Prior to the above match, Wanderers Juniors met and defeated Athletic juniors by 18 points to nil. The district competitions will open on Saturday next. The fixtures and referees are as under: — Seniors. —Wanderers v. Foxton at Levin, at 2.50 p.m., Mr E. Bevan. Hui Mai v.
