RUGBY FOOTBALL.

HOROWHENUA DISTRICT COUNCIL The first ordinary meeting for this season of the Management Committee of Horowhenua Rugby District Council was held at the Wistaria Rooms on Tuesday. There were present: Messrs W. Hannan (president), Lcs. McDonald, J. W. Procter, M. Winiata, G. Mitchell, A. Richards, H. Hutchins, S. Hooper, J. W. Rimmer, E. M. Ryder and J. Casey (secretary.) NOMINATIONS OF TEAMS. . The :Foxtbn District High. Schoolwrote stating they would enter a sec-' ondary school team (fourth grade) hi the Council’s competitions providing there ’were at least four teams competing. —Received. The secretary of the Paraparaunm Club wrote nominating a junior team, and stated that Messrs G. Maclean and J. B. Bateman, of Levin, had.been appointed delegates on belialr of t’he Club. —Received. GROUNDS FOR THE SEASON. A letter was received from Mrs Christina Prouse giving the Council permission to use her property near the Levin station for football matches. —The offer was accepted with thanks. In answer to an application for the use of the Paraparaumu Domain, the Domain Board replied that the Council could use the same, the terms to be as last year.—Accepted. In acknowledging receipt of an ap-, plication for use of the Shannon Domain, the Shannon Borough Council stated that the request was granted, flic terms being fixed at £lO for the season. —A motion that the offer be accepted was carried. The Levin Park Domain Board wrote granting the Council the use of the Domain oval and grandstand for the. football ceason 1928, with the right to charge admission under the same terms as last year—i.e., a rental of £2O for the seacon; all matches played under the Combined Union to be subject to an additional 15 per cent, on the gross takhigs.—The offer was accepted. The Foxton Rugby Football Club ■wrote acknowledging receipt of an application for the use of the Club grounds on the Racecourse for the season, and in reply stated that they would be pleased to grant the Council the use of same at a rental of 10 per cent, of all gate takings.—lt was resolved tliat the Council accept the offer of the Foxton Club, provided that the latter procure a letter from the secretary of the Foxton Racing Club authorising the Foxton Football Club’s control of the two grounds for 1928 season. REFEREES ’ ASSOCIATION. The Horowhenua Rugby Referees’ Association notified the ’Council that at the Association’s annual general meeting Mr W. G. Phillips was elected as the Association’s representative.on the management committee of the Council, and that they had decided to appoint Mr ■J. Sciascia as sole selector for the 1928 season. —Approved. , , GENERAL. ! A/motion that the appointment of referees be handed over* to the Horowhenua Rugby Referees’ Association for the 1928 season and that the Council grant £5 to the Association was carried. A REPRIMAND. ;In the case of H. Hemi, Mr Bevan reported that Mr Hemi criticised some of his decisions while he (Hemi) was acting as- line umpire. A motion that the charge be dismissed found no seconder. A resolution was passed to the effect that H. Hem: be reprimanded for liis conduct towards another referee. OPENING OF SEASON. On the question of fixtures resolution; were passed that there be two rounds in senior, junior and third grades, and one division in the junior and thirds The first games for the senior cham ionship will be held on Saturday, Apn 21st. The following is the draw: Weraroa v. Foxton, at Levin; Hui Ma v. Shannon, at Manaltau; Weraroa, a bye.

SELECTOR ON COMBINED UNION

The secretary was instructed to notify the Manawatu-llorowhcnua Um.i. that Mr M. Winiata is the Councii appointee for selector for the Co:n bined Union.
