LAD’S REMARKABLE FIND. MELBOURNE, March 24. A remarkable piece of good fortune befell a youth named Henry Fletcher, of Albert Street, Box Hill (V.), on Sunday Avhen digging in the yard :at his home. *He was engaged in digging a hole in which he was to bury a dead fowl, When his spade struck a hard object. Investigation showed that this object Avas an old teapot, Avhieh was of abnormal Aveight. Looking into the teapot to see Avhat it Avas loaded Avith he found it to be full of what be thought to be old Avar medals, and filling his hat Avith tnese he hastened to slioav the “medals” to his mother; The boy had never previously handled sovereigns, and up to then he had no knoAvledge of the real A r alue of his find. His mother put him right on that point, telling him that the contents of the teapot were, sovereigns and half sovereigns. When .they were counted out their value was found to be £387.

The joy of the youth when he realised this was unbounded. .This Avill be well understood when it is stated that only a few hours previously ,he had been trying to induce his‘mother to assist him in .the purchase of a horse and dray in order that he might be able to undertake cartage work for Lillydale council. v * '

It is believed that the money was buried by : the lad’s grandfather, Mr William Fletcher, beneath an old stable thirty years or more- ago, as the latest date on any of the coins is 1893.'
