Druce, of Manawatu. The- final did not produce move than average golf. Both players drove well •from the first tee but in approaching Blyth was short while Druce overran the green. The former sank in 4, managing, to pull round a stymie —Blyth 1 up. Both players pulled into the-bunker to the left of No. 2, and clipped onto the green for four-yard putts. The hole was halved in s—Blyth 1 up. . In approaching No. 3 Druce drove for The bunker to the right. His ball hopped out, however, to land on the lip of the depression but giving him no better position. Blyth just missed an almost certain putt and the hole was halved in bogey s—Blyths—Blyth 1 up. Both reached No. 4 in one but had long putts to reach the cup. Both attempts fell short, but Druce missed an easy second and gave the green to his opponent. —Blyth 2 up. In driving for No. 6 Druce pulled well off the fairway to the left and duffed his second to just through to “out of bounds” territory. This misfortune cost him the hole —
Blyth 3 up. , r The- Manawatu man made a poor ®drive for the 6th, almost got bunkered with his second and chipped up badly, i Poor putting by Blyth enabled Druce to halve the green in 5. —Blyth 3 UP- 'V. *. ' Two very poor drives were -sent away from No. 7 tee, Blyth striking the ground while Druce lifted his ball too high. The latter, however, here secured his first hole doing the distance in 4 as a result of a splondid long putt. — r Blyth 2 up. Druce drove over No. 8 while the Shannon player fell short. A long putt by tho former placed him three feet from'the cup and a certain winner unless Blyth could hole a long putt. This . he failed to do.—Blyth 1 up.
Each drove to the edge of Eden and putted to within two feet of the holo. Blyth’s attempt to sink lipped the edge and the green was taken by Druce.— i All square. . It was rather remarkable that both players should ditch their 10th drives at the roadway. Blyth made the better recovery getting on to the green with his-second while Druce found the ditch on the other side of the drive, t This misfortune enabled the Shannon player to'take Totaras and again lead 1 up. Up the fairway to Land’s End both players drove well and reached the edge of the green in two; Druce had 4 the longer: putt, however, and his firsl effort was a particularly good one. Tht hole went to Blyth, the Manawatu golf er making a bad second attempt ti
hole.—Blyth 2 up. A splendid long putt at Lagoon Hil 4 enabled Blyth to recover from a bat drive and halve the green in 3. The thirteenth fairway proved un
lucky for both,. Blyth duffed two shots while Druce landed his second undo ’ the Lawsonianas and in a difficult posi tion. The Shannon man eventually
took the green in six.—Blyth 3 up. Druce reached the 14th green, in tw<
to lay two feet from the pin. Blytl
was unable, ~to overcome this handicap $ although a long cnip almost succeedet —Blyth 2 up. Both golfers took three to reach tin 15th green. A fair putt would have given the Manawatu player the hole but he missed. The green was lialvec _in 5. ■, ■
The 16th green saw the finish of tin match. Bruce “took, three to get ont< the greeh and'then over-ran , the hob •too far to make a surety of the putt Blyth went down in 4 and thus won i the match 3 and 2.
