HINTS FOR THE SILVER HAIRED
Silver hair is very fashionable, and extremely becoming to the fair, fresh-complexioned woman. But, it requires most careful attention if it is to be kept a clear, silvery white, free from those disfiguring yellow streaks which so often mar the beauty of silver hair. Never use brilliantine on silver hair. To give it a sheen smear a drop or two of toilet paraffin on a perfectly clean brush, and give a good brushing.
Don’t wave silver hair with hot irons. Heat helps to give the hair a yellow tinge, which is very difficult to remove. Whert a wave is required put it in -with water -waving combs. Choose a shampoo very carefully. If an egg shampoo is desired, use the white only. An excellent shampoo mixture can be made by beating up the whites only of two eggs with two tablespoonsful of -warm water, and one of eau de Cologne. To this add a pinch of borax and a dessertspoonful of finely shredded Castile soap. Beat all together, adding gradually half a pint of hot water, then shampoo the mixture into the nalr.
When rinsing, give two separate waters, and to the second add a slight squeeze of the blue rag. Dry by fanning, never in front of a fire.
Silver-haired women should always slip on a cap, pushing the hair well back beneath it, before applying cream to the face; for the cream, if allowed to come into contact with the hair, will turn the roots to an ugly yellow.
