COMMUNITY LIGHTING.
SCHEME APPROVED BY HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD.
“Consumers are being signed up for community lighting in Levin, and the installation of the lights will be gone on with as soon, as this is complete,” stated Mr J. A. Smith, engineer to the Ilorowlienua Power Board, in his-re-port to the monthly meeting yesterday. This refers to a system whereby lights are maintained under the verandas and in the front of business premsecretary (Mr P. W. Goldsmith) said it was presumed that the Board was favourable to the usual charge for community lamps- —viz., £3 10s per y(.ft [■ —a matter which although previously mentioned, had not actually been decided upon. The following rates were now submitted for the Board’s approval or otherwise: — For a 100-watt lamp (200 candlepower) erected and maintained by the Board and to be alight from dusk to 10.30 p.m. — Per lamp up to 2 lamps —£3 10s per lamp per year, payable in advance; or if paid on the bi-monthly accounts, 12s per lamp per period. Per lamp for 3 lamps or more—£3 5s per lamp per year, payable in advance; or if paid for on the bi-monthly account, 11s za per lamp per period. The chairman (Mr. Q. A. Monk), moved that the rates submitted by the Secretary be approved.' He stated that these were based generally upon, systems in vogue under other Power Boards. In some cases the proposed rates would be found a little higher and n others a little lower than those charged elsewhere. The recommendation had come from the Board’s Engineer. The motion was carried.
