PALMERSTON HOSPITAL.
SECOND THEATRE NECESSARY:
BOARD TO APPROACH DEPARTMENT. ,
“The need for new theatre accommodation is more acute than ever,’’ reported Dr. Frank Ward, Mfedical Superintendent, to the Palmerston North Hospital Board on Thursday. The aver 4 age monthly number of operations fOr the first three months was 96 as com 4 pared with 76 for the corresponding; period of the previous year. Sterilising accommodation was inadequate and" it was quite impossible for two operations to be carried out, at the same time. Every endeavour should'be made to: secure the Minister’s consent for the erection of an up-to-date theatreblock and it would, be essential, to have this theatre ready for use at the completion of the:new* surgical.block. The chairman (Sir J. GK Wilson)considered that: it was absolutely necessary for a second, theatre, and, the Board adopted his suggestion, that the Department be approached with the, view of getting the new block erected; A. further suggestion* by= Dr. Ward that a casualty room be: established for the speedy handling and diagnosing, of accident cases; was referred: to the estimates.
