but is it-going to affect our riding to any extent financially? The Chairman: I don’t think so.’ He added that, if the abattoirs district were extended to the Wirokino riding boundary, he presumed that the exempted area for farmers’ killings would be extended to "three miles from that boundary. Cr. McLeavey stated .that Cr. Eeedwell, chairman of the Borough abattoirs committee, had given him to understand that the scheme would not interfere with farmers’ killings in that sense. Cr. Bryant: I have a licensed slaughterhouse well within three miles of the 'Wirokino riding. The Chairman: It won’t affect you, but only the man who kills without a license. He suggested that the matter be held over for a conference with, the farmers. • . / Cr. Ryder: Cr. Keedwell says there are other boroughs with smaller killings than Levin. Can he substantiate that they are a success? The Chairman: It is nothing to do with us. Cr. Ryder: We are here oif behalf of the ratepayers. If the Borough like to hang themselves, it is no reason wiiy we should help them. It is a matter that wants grave consideration. Cr. McLeavey: Well, I am in favour of it. The Chairman then moved that the matter be referred to the Levin and Ohau branches of the Farmers’ Union for their opinion. Cr. Kilsby moved and Cr. Barber seconded as an amendment, that the Wirokino riding be included in the Levin abattoir area. *
The motion was carried, the voting being as follows: —
