HYDERABAD BEACH PROJECT.

FURTHER INFORMATION SOUGHT REGARDING NEW ROAD. A petition was received by the Horowlienua County Council on Saturday from the Hon. E. Newman and six other ratepayers asking the Council to take the necessary steps for the raising of a loan of £IOOO for the formation of the Waitarere Beach Road,. in connection with the proposed Hyderabad settlement. Properties were specified which they were prepared to include in a special rating district for the purpose of the loan. Plans were also received from Mr C. W. Foster, surveyor. _ . / The chairman said it was intimated that the grades could be altered to reduce the cuttings by 5000 cubic yards. The County Acting-Engineer was not prepared to say whether the scheme could be carried out for £IOOO unless he inspected it. The applicants should be definite as to the amounts of the cuttings. The Council had to advertise that it proposed to apply to the Local Bodies Loans Board, so that ally objections might be lodged; and the ActingEngineer would'have to make an examination of this road, to see if it could be done for the money, before the Council could decide on that. The chairman was rather afraid that next month the Acting Engineer would be so busy that he would not. have time to do it. • It was decided that the matter bo referred to the surveyor for further information together with specifications. The chairman remarked that the Council wanted a definite estimate for the formation of the road. Cr. Kilsby said he ivas rather opposed to a public debt being created: for a road of this description. The Chairman: We have accepted dedication of the road, and the only way it, can be done now is by way of a loan. . Cr. Jensen: Are they asking the Council to dedicate the road without metal? The Chairman: No. Cr. Catley: We would not take it over till it is formed and metalled to satisfaction of the Council. Mr ,E. H. Kidd, Levin, wrote that he had noticed in the Dress that his name was included as one of the petitioners for the raising of a special loan to construct, the Waitarere Beach Road. The inclusion of his property in the proposed special area had been d.one without his'knowledge or consent, and he wished to take this -pportunity of protesting against such action. In due time lie proposed to lodge a formal objection to the proposal if the loan was proceeded with. The chairman stated that Mr Kidd did notr sign the petition. - It was decided that the letter be received and the writer’s ■ opposition .to the proposal noted. . J “-•
