ROYALTIES ON PIT METAL.
COUNTY’S CLAIM ON HIGHWAY BOARD. , v ,\.■•— ■ - , A letter was received from the District Engineer inquiring whether the Council was asking for a Retrospective royalty payment on metal which bad been taken from its pits during the past few years, or for a royalty oh metal which, would be taken in the future. ■ ’ The chairman remarked that the Council should reply indicating that it - expected royalties both for past and ■future supplies of metal. The Clerk asked' if maintenance should be included as well as construction. The chairman replied that he : thought it should. He moved that the Board be informed that the Council considered that the claim should be retrospective both for maintenance and construction, and applicable also to fjiture ; sup- ■ ' plies of metal. , Councillors agreed' that the County was entitled to these payments. - ‘ The Chairman: We have a* pit at Te Iloro which has been absolutely depleted for the Main Highway. If we pay a royalty for metal, it goes in with the other charges to the Board; this is just a claim in respect of our own pits. It was decided to reply to the District Engineer on the line's indicated by the chairman.
