NEW KARA BRIDGE.
TENDERS TO BE CALLED. The Horowhenua County Council, at its monthly meeting on Saturday, deeded that tenders be. called immediately for the new Kara Main Road bridge, the tenders to be considered by the Works Committee who are to accept the most satisfactory tender, with a view to the work being carried out as expeditiously as possible. The County ehauman (Mr Monk) stated that it would be necessary to close the Main Road in the vicinity luring the bridge construction. Th;-: .vould mean diverting traffic across the railway line. It. would be necessary-to ask the Highways Board to contribute .owards the maintenance of the dc.our road and to improve the road over i.he railway crossing. The Council wanted authority for Mr Callander to make such improvements. He suggested that this be referred to a commit:ce consisting of the councillors for tlit fokomaru riding and the Engineer, with power to act. and to„ make such mpfovements af tiro crossing as are necessary; this committee also to dea* with the question of the earthworks lor the ramps at the bi'idge. Tiro whole of the direct traffic would be diverted, and the crossing was a very dangerous' one. It. would be best for the road work to be done with, the Council’s own lorries and men; it could be going on while the bridge was being done. The chairman’s suggestion was agreed to, and it was resolved to call renders for the bridge. x
