NEW DEVICE.

MAILS CHANGED WITHOUT TRAIN STOPPING, “Only to-day I urns pleased to have a report that a new' device had been installed at Levin,” stated Mr G. McNamara, secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, in addressing the Palmerston Lunch Club on Tuesday. ‘ ‘ The Main Trunk express threw off a mail at Levin and picked up another without stopping, representing a speeding up of the mail into Levin by three hours and into Wellington by 18 hours. “We v have been slow in doing this,, but the reason is that most of the expresses used to stop at most of the stations. Now, with the expresses having been speeded up, we have to serve the stations that have been cut out. Now w r e will.'be able to put in similar devices at all other towns whore the local member of Parliament fails to get the express to stop.” (Laughter).
