SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The above Council meeting was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. E. Butt) and Crs T. C. Thwaites, B. Downes, E. J. S. Spencer, Jas. Richardson, Jas. Ourran, jun., Jas Cumin, sen. A. E. Hyde. EXTENSION,OF WATER. J. A. Swindlehurst wrote asking if the Council would grant him permission to connect up with a one-inch water pipe to his property in Stout Street 'which was being used as a nursery. He stated that in the "ear future he was going to instal a watering plant. It was not the amount of water that would bo used, but force that was required and a half inch pipe would not give it. He was aware that the borough by-laws stated that all pipes should be half inch.—lt was decided to grant the request, but as it will be an extraordinary supply a yearly fee of £1 be charged. ACCOUNT REFERRED BACK. The trustees of the Methodist Church referred the account for supply of water back to the Council for adjustment, owing to several of the trustees being of the opinion that the account is unduly charged.—The Town Clerk stated that he had replied to the letter that the charge for water to the church was 5s per year. He had also pointed out that the church 'property was exempt from rates but not for payment of the water supply. The Clerk's action was approved of. ■ „„„ NOXIOUS WEEDS INSPECTOR. lii reply to the Council's request that the Noxious Weeds Inspector visit Shannon, the Department of Agriculture has replied that, under the last amendment of the Noxious WpecU Act, 1908, Borough Councils and Town Boards are required to appoint thenown inspectors;. The Department therefore had no power under the Act to deal with noxious weeds within the borough.—The Borough foreman was appointed Inspector of Noxious Weeds in the Borough. RANGER'S REPORT.
The ranger (J- A. Swindlehurst) reported that since his last report he had found one cow wandering which he had returned to the owner.—Adopt ed
MAIN HIGHWAY THROUGH BOROUGH.
A quotation was received from a firm of civil engineer's for providing plans and specifications and estimate' of cost of construction of the main highway through the borough,—lt was resolved to hold over discussion on the matter until next meeting, as by that date the Municipal Asosciations Conference will be over and the Council may have more information. GENEEAL. Cr. Curran, sen., reported that there were 30 to 40 yards of metal below the weir in Sheehaii Street, which could now be. carted out.—lt was decided to dispose of it at 6d per yard. Or. Eichardson, chairman of the Cemetery Committee, said that they have been asked to extend the water at the cemetery from the present tap to the main entrance, a distance ot about 70 yards. As the committee have a few' pounds in hand, this could be done as it would be a great convenience. The suggestion was approved of and it was also decided to have the grass cut. Cr. Curran, sen., drew attention to the state of the footpath near the Albion Hotel, which he said needed repairing. The Mayor said that as soon as the.roadmen finished asphalting the footpaths, they would start on the footpaths that needed repairing. Cr. Downes reported that he- and the Town Clerk had waited on Messrs. Franks' and Baird in reference to putting down concrete entrances to the garages and an agreement was arrived at whereby they find the labour and the Council provide the material, gni-a eP
