REGISTRATION OF MOTORS.

NOW IS THE BEST TIME.

The registration of all motor vehicles is now being quietly proceeded with. All motor vehicles are required to be registered by March 31st, and already many business men have availed themselves of the facilities afforded. The registration officials, however, would stress the desirability of all motorists registering their vehicles as early as possible in order to facilitate matters for themselves, and avoid the unnecessary rush of previous years. The Department has authorised the relicensing of vehicles as from February Ist last, and the new number plates are now available. The colours are white on a brown background. All those who registered motorvehicles last year are being circularised and asked to fill in the prescribed form as soon as possible. Points to Note. 1. Be sure to fill in correctly both the chassis and engine number, as this cannot be given over the counter. (It is the only means of identifying . the car with the owner). 2. Those buying second-hand cars must secure transfer certificates, which should be posted to the local registrar of motor-vehicles within seven days of the purchase. 3. As the registration period this year is up to May 31st, 1929, and additional 6s 8d is being charged on cars with a proportional charge on other motor-vehicles. 4. Only two classes of motor-vehi-cles are exempt (a) mot or-vehicles owned by a local authority and used exclusively in connection with the construction and maintenance of roads or streets, (b) Motor-vehicles the property of aity person (other than a local authority) which are designed and used exclusively for the aforesaid purpose and which cannot be used or readily adapted for use for any other purpose.
