SHANNON SCHOOL PICNIC.
The township was early astir on. Saturday, when no less than (504: adults and children of school availed themselves of the opportunity to attend the annual school picnic at Plimmerton. ' The train which loft Shannon at 8.20 a.in. consisted of thirteen carriages containing Shannon folk, and in addition there were five carriages conveying the 1 okomaiu school children and their parents, of whom there were 223, making a total of 887 passengers, besides infants. On the journey down rain threatened, but at Plimmerton the sun was shining and continued so througout the day. Upon arrival the picnickers lost no time in settling down to enjoy themselves in bathing, games, etc., while a number tried their’ luck at fishing. The committee and teachers had charge of the arrangements and it was quite evident that both the children and the parents had an enjoyable time. On the return trip, which was commenced at 1.30 p:m., the children were supplied with sweets and fruit, and Shannon was reached at 0.15 p.jm
