HERD TESTING.
MANAWATU ASSOCIATION'S RESULTS FOR JANUARY.
The Mauawatu Herd-testing Association reports as 'follows for the montl; of January:—
The production of butter-fat is being well maintained in spite of the continued dry spell, though the falling off is more noticeable for the month of January than the corresponding period last year. The average over the whole Association is 33.36 lbs butter-fat per cow, which muit 1)3 considered good when feed is so dry. It will be noticed in the fore-going summary, that the average of some Groups are much lower than others. We wish to point out here that this is due to early and late districts. Group No. 7, for instance, wiir lead for average over the other Groups for the season, while the average for the past month is only 28.83 lbs butter-fat per cow, due to the fact that this district is very early and is now well over the best of its season. The highest producing cow to date is 424.09 lbs in 157 days. All cows and heifers tested are included in the following summarv. • GROUP NO. 1. lbs.
