NEW OFFICER ' S"QUALIFICATIONS Out of the 41 applications received for the positicn of County Engineer, the Horowhenua County Council selected three applicants to interview the Council. From these the choice fell upon Mr J. T. M. Brewster, at present Engineer to the Waimea (Nelson Countv Council). * Mr Brewster received his education in Tasmania and came to New Zealand in 1910, after having completed his engineering apprenticeship. H« . was engaged for two years on the staff of the Dargaville Borough Council. In 1914, he went to Thames and was engaged on a survey of a light railway for the Kauri Timber Company and was also employed on street and drainage work in the Borough of Thames, to which his employer was engineer. In 1915 he went to Hamilton and was with i a private firm engaged in surveys and plans of streets and footpaths construction, storm-water drainage and a sewage disposal scheme for Frankton. He served in the war with the 11th Eeinforeenienis. In 1917 he joined the Roads Legalisation Branch of the Auckland Land and Survey Office, where he was employed until February, 1919, when he became assistant engineer to the Franklin .County Council, which position he held until .1920, then becoming engineer to the Akitio County Council, where he remained for four years, being consulting engineer to the Weber County Council during part of that time. Since 3924 he has been engineer to the Waimea County Council. tie has put down-two stretches of bitumen road, one sealing and the other penetration. He has also had experience of wooden, wooden and steel, and reinforced concrete bridges. Mr Brewster is 36 years of age, is a member of the Institute of Structural Engineers, a registered engineer under the N.Z. Government Registration Act.
