TWO BANDITS SHOT. PORTLAND (Oregon), Jan. 19. Arthur Deromest was yesterday promoted from assistant to head cashier at the Scott Bank. He celebrated the event in the evening by reading the rules for the newjob and discussing them with hia wife. The printed instructions /advised cashiers to haye efficient weapons handy in ease of hold-ups, so Demorest marched to the bank this morning with a loaded hunting rifle over his arm. His third customer after the opening hour was a bandit who ordered everyone into the vault while he proceeded to sweep £SOOO into a gunnysack. Demorest shot him through the heart and his second bullet killed the robber's companion. The remainder of the gang outside the bank fled in a motor car v:ile the cashier emptied his magazine in their wake.
