MENDING MINUS NEEDLE AND THREAD

BETTER THAN STITCHES. A daru is always-an obvious pi-~co Of craftsmanship, no matter how exquisitely fine and neat it may be, or how perfect the darning thread matches the colour of the garment. Here is a tried out method that has proved beautifully successful in the matter of torn frocks. Such rents can be mended very skilfully without the aid of the orthodox needle and thread. First, place the torn part of the dress at flat as possible on a table, "and smear the white of a raw- egg round and over the tear—on the wrong side. Next cut a piece of linen a trifle larger than the actual rent. Place your linen patch over the torn portion so that it adheres to the white of egg. Now press with a hot iron.
