HOLIDAY SHOES

Tired, aching feet will spoil the merriest of holidays. Before you go away make quite sure that you have a pair of really comfortable shoes. The plaited shoes worn so much last summer are absolutely perfect and this year they are quite as much the vogue. Not only are they light and airy, but, with fairly stout soles they are quite strong enough for any ordinary wear.

It is wise to buy a pair with the toes plaited, but the heels made of ordinary kid. Not only are they more comfortable like this, but they also keep their shape, and remain smart weeks and weeks longer. Lizard shoes are everywhere, but one word of warning. If you are inclined to suffer from your feet at all, be -wary of thmi during the hotter months. They are so inclined to draw the feet, especially when they are new T and no); * icken in.

Otherwise your shoes with nothing between them and your skin will be sure to rub a blister. And the most ideal walk can be completely spoiled by a sore heel or a tender toe! Many women make a point of saving up their old shoes to wear out at the seaside. This is quite a good idea if kept well within bounds, as many resorts have pebbly beaches. But if you wish to save your shoes, carry the old ones with you and change on the beach: or, better still, if you have a hut, leave the shabby shoes discreetly hidden away until you require them. Mothers of large and boisterous families will find this practice of sav ng the old shoes for holiday wear very profitable. Children will rue nto the water, and it is heart-break ing to know that they are ruining new or good shoos w’hen this happens. Bathing- shoes are, nowadays, an 'mportant and ornamental item in the holiday kit. The old variety with the plaiter rope soles still have their adherents, but most of us prefer the newer rubber type. These can be obtained in so many attractive colours that it is an easy matter to get them to match your bathing costume. These brightly-coloured rubber shoes make very good beach shoes for both mother and children and, although they cost a little snore than tbe old rope ones, they certainly lest longer.
