MARTON A. & P. SHOW

LOCAL SUCCESSES. The Marton A and P Association’s fifteenth annual exhibition took place in the Maiton Park yesterday under ideal weather conditions. The entries were abo ( ut on a par with last year, when taken as a whole, but in the sheep and pig sections reached a record. The cattle section showed a slight falling off as far as numbers were concerned, but the quality was quite equal if not better than at past shows. The official opening was performed by Mr W. S. Glenn, M.P., who congratulated the Association on its progress.

Horowhenua breeders were particularly successful with cattle exhibits, the majority of prizes in the Jersey section coming to this district as well as' the premier awards in the Shorthorn and grade Jersey sectibn. Following is the list of local prize-winners:— The judge’s opinion was that the cattle sections, though not as large as previously, were of excellent breed and quality, Jerseys being the strongest, while keen competition was forthcoming in the Friesians. : B. V. Brown, Weraroa, was the sole competitor in Shorthorns, and exhibited some very fine animals. The champion Jersey bull was Mrs I. \V. Speirs’ Levin) Ku Ku Napier, with W. E. Devine’s (Awapuni) Nap as reserve. J Nicholson’s (Manakau) Jersey Lea Pearl’s Pride was adjudged the champion cow, with K. W. B. Evans' (Weraroa) Gowanbrae Daisy reserve champion. Mrs I. W. Speirs’ entries secured her four first awards, J. Nicholson’s 3, W. Devine’s 2, S. Bofvker’s (lhakara) 1, and B. W. B. Evans ’ 1. B. V. Brown’s entries took all the first awards in the Milking Shorthorn section. ' His Matangi Glaxo 11th w T as awarded the bull championship, and his Waimea Dominio cow the championship. Mrs I. W. Speirs took two first awards in the grade Jerseys, as also did F. -JMatthews (Marton), Little Bros. (Marton), Mrs O. C. Hodder (Westmerc) one each.
