HICCOUGHS ENDED.

SAVED BY HYPNOTISM. NEW YORK. December 15. Hypnotism has saved the life of Senator T. Cob man Du Pont, a member of a famous powder manufacturing millionaire family, who was suf fering from an apparently incurable case of hiccoughs following an operation in which his larynx was removed. The hiccough continually reopened the incisions in his throat and it was feared that he would.bleed to death. All medical efforts to arrest the hiccoughs having failed, an' unnamed hypnotist offered his help. "Placing his patient under his influence, the hypnotist suggested to him that the spasms had ceased. Almost immediately breathing became normal. After being allowed to remain in the hypnotic trance for some time, the patient was gently awakened and the hiccoughs had disappeared.

Senator du Pont is now recovering. An artificial larynx, a new device perfected by scientists of the Western Electric Company, has been inserted and the doctors declare that lie will soon be able to speak as well as ever.
