BOYS SENT TO PRISON.

SHOCK TO COMMUNITY. LONDON, Dee. 29. The Earl of Cavan. in a letter published in the Daily News concerning lie disclosure that 20 boys who had been playing football in the streets of Sheffield were imprisoned because they were unable to pay a few shillings fine, says: "All must be shocked ■it the magistrates concerned, but such a woeful im[lairing of the boys' changes in life is a far greater shock to the community, which enjoys tennis -ourts, cricket" and football fields, golf ■ourses, hnntiug fields, and shooting moors. "While we are playing games in j-.omfort, thousands are forced to play 'n fche streets, risking the prison taint and endangering their social and moral welfare.'' The Earl urges support for the playing fields movement to provide more playing areas for the youth of England, in which.the Duke of York, whom he accompanied on his Empire tour, has displayed such a keen and practical interest.
