DESIGNING FEMALES!
AN AIDER-MAN ON WOMEN POLICE. Alderman P. T. Crook, the veteran chairman of Hull Watch Committee, has refused to conipromise on the question of trie appointment of women police. A resolution from the Catholic Women's League, moved by an exLady Mayoress, was placed before the Watch Committee calling upon them to appoint women police. Alderman Crook replied that his opinion shared by the Chief Constable, was that they had no room at present for women constables.
Observing that he hud been roundly criticised, he said a woman in a high position in the city sent him a rather insolent letter the other day "If we don't stand firm," he added, "these women will take all the positions away from men . That is what it really means Everything these women can do, they will do, and it is only by the tolerance of men who cannot see their designing manner that they will succeed. lam not one of the sort that follows the dictates of every woman." No action was taken.
