MORE BIRTHS LAST TEAR.

BUT OTHER REGISTRATIONS NOT SO SATISFACTORY. The year that is gone, although blessed with an increase in the birth-rate for Levin, carries with it memories of a winter more severe than usual, which is possibly the chief reason why there was a greater number of deaths than in 1926. Coineidently there was some financial depression, and this may be held to account, for a fall in the number of marriages. The better times confidently anticipated by our statesmen will be welcomed with tabor and pipe. The following figures, for which we are indebted to the local Registrar f (Mr B. Magee), show the comparative registrations for. last year and the preceding year and for the final quarters thereof:—

1927 1926 Births . . . 113 100 Deaths . .. 29 22 Marriages 33 38 Oct.-Dec, Oct.-Dec. 1927. 1926. Births . . . 22 32 Deaths ... 8 4. Marriages .. .. 8 8
