ENTRIES CLOSE ON TUESDAY NEXT. Entries for the 1928 Show of the Hoi'owhemia A. and P. Association closes on Tuesday next, January 10th, with the secretary, Mr E. Nicholson, Levin. The season having been a favourable one, the forthcoming show, which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 24th and 25fh, should eclipse all its predecessors. The main sections into which the show is divided are competitions, horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, and dogs, tho last-men-tioned constituting a separate exhibition in the pavilion specially erected for ihe purpose. A number of special prizes and trophies .arc . being offered, which should do much to stimulate competition. Mr 11. J. Lancaster is giving a £5 challenge trophy for most points in the cattle division; and a cup valued at £7 7s is offered by Messrs H. J. Lancaster (Glen Oroua) and Harold J. Lancaster (Levin) , for the best cow or heifer in milk in the purebred divison. This later prize has already been von twice by Mr S. Bowker and once by Mr JL W. Evans. The Davies Memorial Cup is offered as a points prize in fat sheep and lambs. This is a perpetual challenge' trophy, and the. winner’s name is engraved on the cup each year. hi the carcase competitipn for three iambs, a trophy of the value of £5 5s has been donated as a first prize by Mr Fred Davies and the Wellington Afeat Export Co., Ltd., and a second prize of £2 2s by the Hon. E. Newman, ALL C. For most points in purebred Romneys there is a perpetual chalenge cup donated by Air CL J. Stratton'ami valued at £lO 10s. In the'pig section a perpetual challenge silver cup, presented by Mr John Kebbell, is offered for most-points.; Tlurdog show, entries for which close at 5 p.m.. on January 10th, covers a multitude of breeds, and offers separate challenges for. dogs and bitches, Irish water spaniels, Sealyham terriers, fawn and black pugs, and Yorkshire terriers. Many special, prizes are offered, the principal ones being Air C. ■Sherwood’s cup for the best, dog in the Show, Air F. H. R., Gorringe’s for the best dog owned by a member, Air i‘. E'. Parker’s for best toy dog, Air C. H. Bould’s for best setter,,the Association’s cup for best terrier, and Air G. Wise’s for best sporting dog or bitch. All cups have to be won three times, not necessarily in succession, before being won outright.
