ACCIDENT AT OHAU
ELDERLY CHINAMAN INJUR!£>
For no apparent reason, an elderly Chinaman named-Young Foo stepped in front of a motor-cycle at Ohau on Sunday afternoon, and in the resulting confusion he was knocked down and seriously injured. The incident- happened shortly before 5 o ’clode, on the main road, between the station and the bridge. Young Foo and a countryman were walking on the rightrhand side of the road, towards the bridge, and t*wo Levin lads, Hector Walton (driving the motor-cycle) and Basil Stallard (riding on the pillion), were joining behind them, on the left-hand side. When the cyclists were within twelve yards.of tiie Chinese, the older man suddenly ran across the road in front of them. The ruler swerved his machine, in an attempt to avert a collision, but at the same time Foo stepped back, and the dreaded incident happened, The old man struck flic road with considerable .force, and it was evident he had sustained serious injuries. The motor-cyc-lists telephoned to Imviu for, medical and police assistance. Dr. Thompson and Constable Cosgrave were quickly on the spot, and the doctor, after making an examination, ordered the removal of the injured man to the Palmerston North hospital, as lie was suffering from a fractured skull.
In response to a telephone inquiry yesterday, it was learned from the hospital that Young Foo was still dangerously ilk '
