SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL
rORTNIGHTLY MEETING. . The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening: Present :T.he Mayor (Mr. E. Butt) and Crs T. .C. Thwaites, R. Downes, Jas. Curran sen., Jas. Curran jun., A. E. Hyde and E. J. S. Spencer. SWIMMING BATIIS LOAN. A copy of the resolution of the Local Government Loan's Board, sanctioning the raising of a loan for the swimming baths was received. The resolution sanctions a loan of £I2OO to be known as Swimming Baths Loan, 1927, for the purpose of erection of swimming baths; the rate of interest payable in respect to the said loan not to exceed G per cent. The term for which the loan is borrowed not to exceed 25 years.—Received. The matter is to be held over until a later meeting. SCHOOL COMMITTEE'S REQUEST. A letter was received from the School Committee stating that during the Christmas holidays it was their intention to top dress the school grounds; and they desired the use of the Council's tar sealing machine and roller. If a charge was made for the hire of same they would be pleased to know what it is.—The request was granted, no charge to be made. FACTORY-CUT COTTAGES.
In reply to a request from the Council the Railway Department forwarded a pamphlet giving full particulars of the Department’s factory-cut cottages similar to those being ere.cted a t Shannon. —Referred to the Building Commit-, tee to bring down a report at the next meeting. RANGER’S REPORT.
The ranger (J. Swindleliurst) reported that since his last report he had made numerous night visits around the streets and found them clear of wandering stock. GENERAL.
The foreman (F. Haley) was granted his annual leave of 14 days during the Christmas holidays. As the next meeting of tin; Council falls on December 27th, the Mayor proposed that as this date came in Christmas week, it should be abandoned. Any urgent, .‘matters could be dealt with by tlie Town Clerk, and the committee interested. This Avas agreed to. Cr. Downes reported that the hand bridge over Stansell’s drain was completed and should prove a boon to residents in that locality. A further sum of £2 10s was handed to the Town Clerk by the Beautifying Committee. This amount makes _ a total of £25 which has been voluntarily subscribed by the public to give relief to local unemployed. An application from Mr. J. Swindlehurst for a permit to erect a glass house was referred to the Building Committee.
