BUTTER AND CHEESE.
; LATEST MARKET ADVICES. Messrs A. 11. Turnbull and Co., Ltd., agents for Weddell and Co., report:— We issued our monthly report on December without awaiting the monthly, gradings which are now to hand. At that time, prices had receded to 3 70s for finest fresh landed salted butter. Then came the news of the shipping hold-up in Australia which immediately had a firming effect on both the British and Canadian markets, and further sales were effected at from is 4id f.o.b. for first grade to Is 4§d for finest. The demand was, however, very limited and although the London market showed an advance of 3s to 4s per cwt., this quickly disappeared again, on the announcement of a settlement and to-day's cable advises values in London as 166 s to 168 s, or approximately Is 4d per lb. nett, f.o.b. Canadian buyers have also reduced their ideas, and business to-day-is only possible at round about Is 4]d for finest and Ls 4d for 1)2 points.
Cheese.—The market is' weaker and dull at !)4s to !)os whilst forward buyers show very little interest. Production.—We draw your attention to grading figures at the foot of this report and especially to the great •ncrcase in butter gradings this season, which we fear will tend to have a further depressing effect on London. You will note that the gradings for November constitute a monthly record for all time.
