DEATH OF WELL-KNOWN FARMER.

THROUGH OVERTURNING OF DRAY. A sad fatality occurred at Marionoto yesterday afternoon, between one and two o’clock, when a well-knowi. and highly respected farmer, in the person of Mr Warren Satherley, lost his life through the overturning of a dray in which lie was driving. The unfortunate man, in company with a neighbour, Mr Bain, had been into. Shannon, .and they were returning home in a spring dray wh.eh was loaded with wire, timber, etc. Mr Satherley was driving, his companion sitting at the back. According to Mr Bain, when they were going down the hill on the Mari-’ onoto road, the vehicle commenced to sway with the load, and the next thing he knew was that one wheel of the dray went over tlie bank, causing the horse and dray to fall about IB feet below, pinning the occupants beneath. Mr Bain was able to extricate himself uninjured, but lie was powerless to remove Mr Satherley, the vehicle being upside down and the horse lying on its back. He immediately called for help, Messrs Collins and Dorset coming to his aid; and with their assistance the horse and dray were rolled over, and Mr Satherley was removed. It- was at once seen that his condition was serious. He was placed in a ear and taken to a doctor at Levin, but on examination the latter pronounced life to be extinct. An inquest will be held at 9.30 a.m. to-day.
