The paragraph speaks for itself: — Broadcasting stations have l'ecently been erected at Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, NeAv : Zealand, Avhich, according to the consul there has increased the listener -interest. Auckland has also a 500-watt station in operation. Formerly conditions Avere none too favourable, and radio equipment on excess of , demands. Noav, hoAvever, it is estimated that there are about 3500 sets in operation th e larger percentage being American made, although some are of Australian make. I Most of the listeners, it is reported use tube sets of at least four tubes, but some run as high as eight. With the anticipated improvement in economic conditions in New Zealand activity and interest in radio are expected. Although the population of the Dominion is approximately 1,500,000, 80 per cent of Avhich is European, American goods usually find a market there. Only 1 per cent ad valorem, a British preferential is charged on American radio imports.
