RADIO SETS
SYDNEY, Nov. 10. The .latest in Sydney fiats is the equipment of buildings, by the owners, with complete radio sets. In Darlinghurst, which is the" main home ef Sydney's vast army of flatdwellers and, which, incidentally, is .the subject of mi my stage jests, flats are now towering into th e sky with a central receiver and a speaker unit, not merely for each flat, bat for each room. The set itself is tuned to the local'ctntions by a series of fixed condensors and switches. This obviates the necessity for -in operator.
A man in another district in Sydney is making hay while the wireless craze lasts. Possessing a very powerful set, he has leads to practically every house in, . the street. • Each hous e pays him is 3d a week and supplies its own plug and speaker. Practically every other householder seems nowadays to have a wireless set, and th e severest critics of the programmes broadcast are those who do not pay license fees ,and they are legion. Great difficulty is being experienced in the detection of illicit users now that sets can be so easily concealed.
