GIVE SACRED CONCERT AT OTAKI SANATORIUM. A treat of .unusual excellence was given to the patients and nurses at the Otaki Sanatorium last night, when a concert party organised by members of the Royal Wellington Choral Union, who are visiting' Levin to assist in the “Messiah” production, visited the institution. The solos were undertaken, by Mesdames Ellison Potter and J. E. Ramsey, of Wellington, and Messrs Edwin Dennis (Wellington), -W. Watters (Palmerston North), and A. Mottershead'(Levin). A flute solo by. Mr Rothwell, and, a lecturette by Mr Mackenzie (both of Wellington) were also given. The members rendered several of the chorus parts of ~the “Messiah.” The party, numbering 40, was conducted by Mr Edwin Dennis, A.R.C.M., and Miss Dorothy Mills played the accompaniments.
...All the items were thoroughly appreciated by the audience and encores and double .encores were insisted upon. Matron Pownall in returning thanks said that the concert was a great, treat to the patients and nurses and that if giving pleasure to others' could be regarded as a reward then the party could consider themselves handsomely rewarded.
Cheers were then given for the party and the conductor, and pretty bouquets “presented to all the soloists and to the accompaniste. Mr Dennis expressed the pleasure that it gave to' the party to visjit the institution. Refreshments were then provided for the guests who were given a hearty send-off.
