INTER-CLUB DEBATE
"KISSING CUP" WON BY MANGAHAO. The return inter-Club debate between the Mangaore and Mangahao Societies was held at Mangaore oil Saturday evening Jast, the 12th instant, Mr A. R. Blackwood presiding over a fair attendance. The subject under discussion was entitled "That a Limited Monarchy is preferable to a Republic." The Mangaore team was. Messrs F. Goldsmith (leader), J. H. Roberts (seconder), H. Symons, D.Jamieson, N. M. Porter, and A*. S. Cjoa'tcos. The Mangahao team wasiMessrs A. D. Webster (leader), J. Conno'lv (seconder). D. A. Moreton, F. Goode, J. Mellingiin and R. J.'White. The -judges fov the contest were: Messrs A. H. Morgan, B. J. Brann, and Dr.' L. Bell (all of Shannon). The debate was an interesting one and the judges retired -for quite, a lengthy period to decide what apparently seemed a close result.
During the judges' summing-up, vocal items were rendered by Messrs J. Gagliardi. F. f Goldsmith and A. D. Webster aud'choruse3, Mr R. J. White presiding at the piano. The judges' decision resulted, in the Mangahao team winning the debate by a very narrow margin. Mr Blackwood, in presenting the "Kissing Cup" to the leader of the Mangahao team (Mr Webster), congratulated the'team on wresting the handsome trophy from the rival club, and he also stated that evidently the Cup was part and parcel of Mangahao, as it was made in Mangahao, of Mangahao timber and by Mangahao men.
