MIRANUI FOOTBALL AND TENNIS CLUB BALL.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION

Although somewhat marred by the weather, the above Ball held m the Druids’ Hall on Friday evening, proved to be a splendid success. The hall presented a unique and gay appearance when some 90 ecuplts took the floor for dancing, x many being present from Palmerston North’ and the neighbouring townships. The hall was decorated most tastefully with .fibre and green flax, finished with an arrangement of green and black streamers and coloured balloons. Mr A. Gillespie proved himself an excellent master of/ceremonies, while the, music supplied by Larkin’s Orchestra helped considerably towards the enjoyment of the evening. The supper arrangements, which were x in the charge of Mesdanies Picard, Jamieson senr., Farrell, Wilson, Jamieson, jum, Harding and Small, and Misses Picard and Jamieson, was much appreciated, h most /pleasing bill of tare Being provided. During the evening Mr Alfred Sfiifert presented the trophies won by the players/of the two clubs during the season. 11l a brief speech he stated that , the Miranui Football Club had done exceedingly well during the past season. They had been successful in winning the Rogers Cup at the sevema-side tournament at Palmerston North, whilst in the Hoiowlienua Union the Coley Cup, the Hall Banner and the Maori .Canoe had been decisively won by the team. The recipients of the football trophies were as follows: Mr A* Seifert’s cold medal, most improved back, E. Crawford; Mr C. Young’s trophy, most improved foiward, E. C. Polglase; Mi 4. Gillespie’s gold medal, best back, j.‘ Humphries; Mr R. W. Priest’s gold medal, most consistent back, F. Picard; Mr H. A. . Seifert'’s gold medal, most consistent forward, M. 3? an ell (capt.); Mr Jas. Cuiran’s brief bag, best, forward, F. Vertongen; Mr W. Chase’s gold medal,. best all-iound player, J. Mabey; Messrs Karena and Watson’s gold medal, youngest player, L. -Croon. Referring; to, the raoid growth of the tennis'club, Mr Seifert said that, from, his knowledge of the game he formed the opinion that it would not be long before some Miranui playeis would be showing up in championship tennis, so great’"was'.the improvement shown by some of the players. In presenting the Superior Cup- and Miniatures, donated by Mr B. B. Woods, of Christchurch, Mr Seifert heartily congratulated the winners, Messrs Cliff Hunt and Kingi Wilson on the fine performance they had put up. Dancing continued to an early hour; extras were played by( Misses E. Jamieson arid Rankin, and Messrs S. Parsons and F. Jamiescn and Keriona.
