The rain which fell on Friday was very consistent:, causing the drains and creeks in the Borough to run bank high and in some casos to overflow, with the result that a lot of water found its way on to the low lying land. Fortunately when the rain ceased, the water quickly receded. A great volume of water came down the Otauru. stream earying away the new swing bridge, recently erected at the foot of Sheehan Street by the Public Works Department, also the water pipe which carries the town water supply to Mr. S. W. Carter’s farm. It ; s reported that the flood in the creek was the highest for five years. There were numerous slips on the road to Mangahao and the ford just above Mangaore was also in flood, with the result riiat vehicular traffic was blocked, from about 11«.a.m. on Friday till .Saturday at 1 p.m.' There were two large slips- on the Shannon side of the range, while at Mangahao, within a distance of three miles, there were no less than ten fairly large slips A large gang of men were engaged in lemoving tlie debris. The Mangahao river was in flood but no damage is reported.
