A VISIT TO KAPITI.

M.’sP. ENFORCED STAY. The party of members of Parliament who spent the week-end on Kapiti Island, returned to town yesterday morn-' in'g none the worse for their outing. The party numbered eleven, and included Messrs W. 11. Field (Otaki), J. G ' Eliott (Oroua), H. G. Dickie (Patea). A. M. Samuel (Ohinemuri), A. Harris (Waitemata), W. A. Veitch (Wanganui), .7. R. Hamilton (Awarua), J. M’Combs (Lyttelton), and the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Air. Mclntosh). “None of us are any the worse for our outing,’’ Mr. lsiiott remarked. “We all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, and are very, glad wc made the trip. It was well Worth while.’’ Leaving Wellington by the Napier mail on So; urdav morning, the party put off from Paraparaumu beach, and made, an excellent crossing to the island. The .veathov on Saturday was ideal, and the visitors were greatly impressed with the beauty of Kapiti. Sunday; was another glorious day, and the party divided up. one section going for a long tramp and the others devoting themselves to fishing. The fishing party met with a fair measure of success fortunately* for on Monday the party, which had expected to return to Wellington ,either on Sunday night or early on Monday morning, found * -themselves short of food. The fish, supplemented 1 bv’ some stores provided by the caretaker of the island (Mr. Wilkinson), carried the party over. The weather changed on Sunday, and all hopes of returning to the city that night had to be abandoned; On Monday there was no improvement, ancl fishermen from Paraparaumu, who went across to the island <to bring the party back to the mainland, declined to take any risks.

Yesterday morning there was a decided improvement in the weather, and the fishermen decided that it would be quite safe to' bring the party across. Even so, the landing at Paraparaumu was not effected without some difficulty, and Air. Eliott praised the seamanship of the fishermen.
