monthly meeting.
The-usual monthly meeting of the above was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs R. L. Tippler (chairman) E. Butt, W. Lankshear, J. Riches, J. Coates, A. Blackwood and J. V. Burns (secretary). GENERAL.
Resolved that Miss XVbite be written to ihanking her for the trouble taken by her in supplying cocoa to the children during the winter months and asking her to accept the balance in hand from the cocoa fund for hdr trouble. . It was decided to call‘a meeting of ladies in the Council Chathbers on Thursday at 2 pm. to consider ways .ami means of raising funds to' carry out improvements to the girls’ playing area.
DAYLIGHT SAVING
On tlie motion of Mr. J. V. Burns it was resolved that the daylight saving time .be observed as regards the hour for opening the.-school. Also that the committees monthly meetings \ start at the standard time. HEADMASTER’S REPORT.
The headmaster, (Mr. A. T. White) reported as follows: —School weekly attendance averages, sinces last report: ;J3!>. 341, 341 and 334; number on roll, 3(JB. General: The wires of the fence at tlie northern corner require attention. This corner is being used by children and adults going to the factory. He had warned the children against using the school ground as a on Saturdays and Sundays and after school hours; but- there'is the question of providing an entrance to the school from that- section or roadway bounding the western side. He saw no harm in children leaving the ground by that way if a proper entrance is providedprovided however, that the school ground is not made a public thoroughfare for all and sundry. He . would suggest that' a post lie put close to the corner and near to. another post, that the two posts be tied across the top and the ordinary wires fastened separately round the posts. The children could then pass between the two posts. Re cricket pitches: The ground is now being prepared. Pictures: Messrs Hyde and Wilkinson have kindly offered to give two or three entertainments to the school for school funds. He proposed to charge 6d per child and give the proceeds to the septic tank fund. Tuning of piano at Infant School: This needed attention, and whilst tuner wva-s in district he obtained his services. '
The Chairman stated that the road referred to by Mr. White in his ■•eport could be made a public right-of-way as it had not ,yet been taken over by the Council. On the Chairman’s recommendation it was decided to have the fence repaired. , . It was resolved that a letter be written to Messrs Hyde and Wilkinson, picture proprietors, thanking them for their offer to provide entertainments to assist the. school funds.
