GOLF HONOUR TO LEVIN.
K. ADAMS WINS HOKOWHITU HANDICAP. Consistently good play by K. Adams, of Levin, resulted in his winning the Hokowhitu Handicap at the Manawatu tourney at Palmerston North on Friday. . The closing stages of the competition were played as under: Semi-Final. ft". Adams. (Levin) handicap 14, beat P. Hay (Masterton) hdep. 6,2 and 1 N. C. Shepherd fWairarapa) hdep. 7 beat G. W. Blaxall' (Wellington) hdep. 5, 1 up. : ; Final. K. Adams (Levin) hdep. 14, defeated N. C. Shepherd ((Featherston) hdep. 7, in the final. The latter lost the game av a result of his indifferent putting and approaching. Approaching No. 1. Shepherd was bunkered on the right and took 3 to get out. Adams holed in 5 and foecame 1 up. At the second Adams topped his drive, duffed his second and holed in 6, Shepherd made a lovely drive his ball getting to within 4 yards of the green. Weak approaching and putting, however, lost him the hole which was halved. Very poor putting by both players at No. 3 icsuUed in the green being halved in 6. Weak putting by Shepherd. at the 4th also lost him the hole 5 —4. Adams won the sth in 6. Shepherd, after being near the green in - two long shots, duffed his approach and took 7 for the hole. Long wooden shots by Shepherd for No. 6 green were again spoiled by his putting, the hole going to Adams 5 —6. .Adams 4 up. No. 7 was won by Shepherd 5—6. The Wairarapa player was out of bounds. off the tee at "Monros" but recovered with a good third and halved the green in 5. Adams laid Shepherd a stymie at "Eden" but the latter, playing around the ball, halved out jn 4 Adams 3 up. Shepherd again fell bahind at the 10ih owing to a poor approach and Adams was again 4 up. The latter increased his lead to 5 up r:t "Land's End." Shepherd's short work being anything but certain. A bogey 3 at "Lagoon Hill" by Adams 'o Shepherd's 4 made the former lovmy fi. Adams then secured the "Dog leg" and the match by 7 and 5. A four-ball bogey handicap resulted in a win for J. Carter (Bulls) and C. R. Hosic (Levin). 8 up; F. J. Nathan and J. W. Blaxall were second with 6 up, while three pairs tied for third place with 5 up.
