MAIN HIGHWAYS CONSTRUCTION.

MONTHLY REPORT OF COUNTY ENGINEER. The Horowhenua County Council, at its monthly meeting on Saturday, received the following report from its engineer (Mr. W. N. Anderson), on Main Highways work: — No. 1 Highway. Waikanae—Otaki Bridge.—Work on this section is nearing completion. Foundation metalling will be finished very shortly and the material for the penetration" course is all on the ground. I Otaki—Manakau Bridge.—The forniI ation work on this section is practical: | ly completed with the exception of deviation at Bevan's corner, and tenders will be called for this work during next week. Minor earthwork is held up pending the removal of several telegraph poles by the Telegraph Department. Where the formation work is finished, the foundation metalling is also finished. The deviation at. the concrete overhead bridge has been opened ■for traffic. If the fine weather continues, a start will shortly be ■ made with laying of bitumen between Waitohu Bridge and Otaki railway crossing. • "':. . ' Manakau Bridge—Waikawa Bridge. —The piece of road between the Wai kawa Bridge and the end of. the .present bitumen road is being prepared i or' sealing. No. 60 Highway. Levin—Waoku Stream. —The section of Queen Street from Bartholomew Road to Arapaepae Road, is being grad--ed and prepared for sealing. Tokomaru Bridge —North Boundary. —The formation work is practically completed and a quantity of foundation metal is being put out.
