FLOOD-WATER TROUBLE.
NEGOTIATIONS AWAITED. A stage in the Kawiu Road floodwater difficulty came under the notice of the County Council on Saturday. , The Town Clerk wrote advising the Council that at a meeting of the Borough Council on September 19th, a recommendation from the Streets Committee was adopted whereby it was decided to carry out certain drainage works with a view to giving relief from flood waters to the properties in Ox- i ford Street North owned by Messrs T. F. Gibson and J. Ingram. Provided that nothing definite was heard'before the Borough Council's next meeting (held on October 3rd) with reference to the.proposed drain from Mr Suhan's and Mr Mackenzie's properties, this recommendation would be given effect, in which case the Borough Council's promised support, for the major scheme was liable to be withdrawn. The Town Clerk asked for advice as to how matters were progressing in connection with this latter scheme.
The chairman stated that he had seen Mr Suhai), who said he was going to write to this Council and make a straight-out offer, but prior to doing so he wanted to see Mr Mackenzie, who was also interested. It was decided to "hold the matter over for a month and to notify Messrs Suhan and Mackenzie to this effect, and also draw their attention to the Borough Council's proposed action.
