VALUABLE DIAMONDS.

LUCKY FINDS IN AFRICA.

CAPETOWN, Oct. 3

Several very valuable stones have been found in South Africa just lately. One magnificent stone which was found at Manana weighs only eight and akalf carats, but realised in all £325, or practically £4O a carat, an exceptional price "for a stone of that size. Another stone, which is of unique golden colour and has a beautiful lustre, is being cut in Johannesburg, and in its cut and polished state is valued at £250 a caTat. In its rough state this stone -was six and a-half carats; it was found at Ventersdorp, and sold ,by its discoverer in ignorance of the value of his find, for £l6 ss, or £2 10s a carat. The death occurred this week of Mr. H. J. O’Reilly, who is believed to have discovered the first diamond in South Africa, 60 years ago, on a .farm belonging to one Van Niekerlt, in Hopetown district.
