PHOENIX CRICKET CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of -the Phoenix Cricket Club was held on Thursday evening, Mr. D. S. Mackenzie presiding. ANNUAL REPORT. The report of the secretary (Mr. G. Blake) was as follows: —“I have to report that the Club, which only commenced operations last year, has had a successful season, both from a sporting and a financial viewpoint. While the club cannot claim to have annexed any cups or shields, they have won as many games as they have lost, and that must be taken as quite a satisfactory result for a new club. From a financial viewpoint, the club were singularly successful, for they have acquired gear which is still usuable, and

have a cash balance of £1 16s 4d

Thanks are due to Messrs Mackenzie and Nicholson for placing their cars at the disposal of the club on no fewer than five occasions, with the result that , the funds benefitted to the extent of £3 15s 6d. Another contributing feature is the alacrity with which subscriptions came to hand, and this speaks well for the members as a whole. A healthy sign was the fact that we were not dependent upon donations, which were received from Mr. Knight, patron (£2 2s) and Mr. Bould (£1 Is). In conclusion I have pleasure in again offering my services as secretary and treasurer, which position has been made quite a pleasure by reason of the consideration shown me by the members at all times.” The balance sheet showed that the receipts were £23 19s 6d (including subscriptions £l7 Is), and the payments £22 3s 2d, (including purchase of gear £ls 13s 6d). The assets amount to £lO -19 s 10d, after allowing £9 Is for depreciation. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —Patron, Mr. P. Knight (re-elected); president, Mr. A. Hawke (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs C. Bould, R. W. Percy and C. F. Redman; chairman, Mr D. S. Mackenzie (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. Blake (re-elected); management committee, Dr. Hunter, Messrs F. Pirani, F. Auckram, F. Phillips, D. S. Mackenzie and G. Blake; selection committee, the captain, vicecaptain, and secretary; delegates to Horowhenua Cricket Council, Dr. Hunter and Mr. F. Auckram. , It was left to the management conir mittee to appoint the grounds committee.

Several eulogistic references were made to Mr. Knight’s keenness as patron and his aid to the club last season.

The following, new members were elected: —Messrs C. Hobson, F. Phillips, 11. Kidson and R. Pringle. THE COMING SEASON.

The secretary was intsructed to make arrangements in conjunction with the Levin club for the appointment of a groundsman. The subscriptions were fixed at the same rates as last year —namely, £1 Is for seniors and 5s for youths under 18. It was resolved that a Wednesday division of the club be formed. Mr.

Pirani was authorised to approach any intending players and act, on behalf of the club in organising the division. The delegates were instructed to move at the District Council in the direction of abolishing the two divisions of the district and restoring the united district system.
